Local Boy Scout Troop Constructs Storage Bin for Life Preservers at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck
June 2, 2010
For his Eagle Scout Leadership Project, Life Scout Michael O’Boyle of Boy Scout Troop 1225 of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Lake Ronkonkoma, designed and, with the help of his fellow scouts, built a storage bin to hold the life preservers that the campers at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck use when they go boating on Kaler’s Pond. The bin provides convenience for the staff members who otherwise would have to walk across the campgrounds to the storage shed in order to retrieve and put away the life preservers. Jean Gilrane, Director, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck, thanked Michael and the other Boy Scouts for donating their time and talents on this project.
Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is a resident summer camp designed for young people ages 6-21 with special needs. Its mission is to help children and adults achieve equality, dignity, and maximum independence through a safe and quality program of camping, recreation and education in a summertime environment. Throughout the program, campers participate in typical summer camp activities, such as arts and crafts, talent shows, cook-outs, swimming and boating.
