Patchogue-Medford School's Latin Dance Team Has Great Year
June 15, 2010
June is upon us and with it the end of another school year. Great things have been accomplished by Patchogue-Medford School District's staff and students, 2009-2010 has definitely been the “it” year for many of them, including the Latin Dance Team, a group of talented students advised by Adriana Devers and Gloria Romero, whose mission is to promote cultural awareness through the art of music and dance.
Unity Day celebration followed by a successful presentation at the Dominican Independence Day event held at Suffolk Community College. This past March, the Latin Dance Team made its debut in the cultural program entitled “Huellas” (Traces), produced by teacher and poet, Adriana Devers. Appearances included the Corona Library, Washington Heights Library, Jackson Heights Library and Stony Brook University, where they captivated the audience with their performance at the Global Awareness Day.
The Latin Dance Team members are ambassadors of our heritage, our diversity and the Patchogue-Medford Community. In May, their performances included the International Potluck Dinner at Medford Elementary and the Spring Cultural Arts Festival in Brentwood. During their final performance of the school year, the Latin Dance Team was honored with a Certificate of Achievement for promoting harmony and understanding through dance by Suffolk County Executive, Steve Levy.
